OPAP delivers fully modernized cardiology unit of “Aghia Sophia” children’s hospital

 82% of renovation of two Children’s Hospitals completed

On Wednesday 1 July, OPAP officially delivered a fully renovated and modernized cardiology unit of the “Aghia Sophia” children’s hospital. The cardiology unit, which has already been put into operation, has a capacity of 20 beds over a 570 sq. meter area in total. Following the delivery of this project, the renovation of the two largest children’s hospitals, “Aghia Sophia” and “Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriacou”, which OPAP has undertaken and continues to be in full progress - has been completed by 82 percent.

OPAP Acting CEO, Jan Karas, stated: “At OPAP, we are really proud of our ambitious initiative to fully renovate Greece’s two largest children’s hospitals. This project is at the heart of our commitment to social contribution and a big part of our corporate responsibility strategy. To date, we have completed more than 80% of the renovation of the two hospitals. Overall, we have delivered 26 renovation works, including 20 nursing units, which significantly support hundreds of thousands of children, their parents and hospital staff. Our work doesn’t stop here of course, we continue and remain committed to the full renovation of the two hospitals”.

OPAP Deputy CEO, Odysseas Christoforou, stressed: “For a sixth consecutive year, OPAP is continuing its program for the renovation of the “Aghia Sophia” and “Panagiotis & Aglaia Kyriacou” children’s hospitals. Today, we are delivering the important Cardiology Clinic of the “Aghia Sophia” hospital, fully renovated.  Despite the difficult circumstances created by the pandemic, our work continued as normal, supporting the sensitive sector of Health in practice and especially our country’s youth. With the same drive, we will continue this major social work”.

In turn, the Joint Governor of the Children’s Hospitals, Emmanuel Papasavvas, noted: “The children’s hospitals are on track towards their modernization and the upgrading services provided, thanks to OPAP’s great contribution. This is an ambitious project which started in 2014 and continues at the same pace even today, despite the difficult conditions due to the pandemic. I would like to thank OPAP for this initiative, thanks to which we can enjoy having a modern and child-friendly children’s hospital in our country”.

The renovation of the cardiology unit of the “Aghia Sophia” children’s hospital includes the full modernization of electromechanical facilities and air conditioning/heating/ventilation systems, as well as the supply of the necessary office and accommodation equipment. Furthermore, extensive chromatic and decorative interventions were carried out, creating a pleasant medical environment for young patients.

OPAP begun the renovation project of the “Aghia Sophia” and “Panagiotis & Aglaia Kyriacou” hospitals in April 2014, in the context of its corporate responsibility program. To date, 26 renovation works have been delivered, including 20 nursing units over a total of 12,680 sq. meters with a capacity of 459 beds.
