Significant contribution to Health by OPAP

Two fully renovated floors at pediatric hospitals “Aghia Sofia” and “Panagioti & Aglaias Kyriacou” were delivered

Implementing its significant project for the renovation of our country’s two largest Children’s Hospitals, “Aghia Sofia” and “Panagioti & Aglaias Kyriacou”, OPAP delivered on Monday 15 May 2017, two fully renovated floors on which medical and hospital services will be provided in modern and high quality facilities.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Prokopios Pavlopoulos. The Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Mr. Ieronymos B’, carried out the sanctification.

All necessary building repairs and aesthetic interventions were completed on both floors, completely altering their image. At the “Aghia Sofia” hospital, the two sixth-floor university nursing units with a total area of 1,600 square meters and a capacity of 59 beds were renovated. At the "Panagioti and Aglaia Kyriakou" Hospital, the nursing unit on the fourth floor of the 1st wing, with a total area of 550 square meters and a capacity of 30 beds, was renovated.

After thanking the President of the Hellenic Republic and the Archbishop for attending the event, OPAP Executive President, Mr. Kamil Ziegler, characteristically stressed: “Today is a really special day for all of us in OPAP as we inaugurate two new floors in Greece’s two largest children’s hospitals. The renovation of the hospitals is an ambitious and long-term initiative, and the aim of our actions is to support young people, the country’s most valuable asset. Throughout its history, OPAP was proven to be more than just a social contributor. We have been a responsible and credible partner of the Greek society in achieving common objectives and we fully acknowledge the positive change that we can bring. Our strong commitment is to continue in the same direction”.

OPAP CEO, Mr. Damian Cope, stated: “Focusing on creating a better tomorrow for youth, as one of the market leaders and a responsible partner of Greek society, we assume an active role and proceed with initiatives that improve daily life and contribute to social progress. And this is a strategic goal for us. Through our corporate responsibility strategy we support the health sector. The renovation of Greece’s two largest children’s hospitals is a landmark initiative for OPAP. So far, we have upgraded 35% of the two hospitals, offering a better treatment environment for more than 60,000 children. We are really proud of our achievements, but our work does not end today; we continue with our ambitious project of fully renovating the two hospitals”.

On his part, the Chief Executive of the Interconnected Hospitals, Mr. Emmanuel Papasavvas, underlined: “I express my warm thanks to OPAP for substantially supporting our work, in hope that new actions will follow in future. No contribution to children goes to waste”.

OPAP began the renovation project of the two specialized hospitals that cater to the needs of children from all over Greece, in April 2014 under its Corporate Responsibility program. To date, 19 projects have been implemented over a total of 7,480 square meters.

Specifically, there has been a complete reorganization and modernization of nursing units with a capacity of 230 beds and 50 incubators. In addition, major repairs and interventions have been carried out at the central entrances, the stairwells and the waiting rooms, and an elevator has been replaced. The works that have been carried out at the hospitals include the creation of sanitary facilities, the installation of new medical and hotel equipment and the complete modernization of electrical and mechanical facilities in accordance with modern international standards.
